IUS PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Whether you enroll for a full semester program or attend one of our 3-week intensive sessions, your IUS study abroad experience is much more than a few language classes "on location". Organized class excursions to important sites in and around Seville supplement your formal coursework. Special learning options accommodate your specific needs and interests.
PROGRAM SESSIONS
As
an IUS student, you register for classes just as you do at
your college or university in the United States. You may register
for
one or more of the sessions in which IUS’ academic year is
divided: Fall Semester, January Intensive Session, Spring Semester,
June Intensive Session, and July Intensive Session. During the
Fall and/or Spring Semesters, you may enroll in three to five courses
during each semester. During any of the three Intensive Sessions,
you may enroll in one course. Under special conditions, you may take 2 courses during these intensive sessions. Contact IUS for further details.
Note: All classes observe legal Spanish holidays. In addition, spring semester classes are off during Semana Santa (Holy Week) and the week of La Feria de Abril.
INSTRUCTORS
Almost all IUS classes are taught in Spanish by Spanish instructors
holding Ph.D. or "licenciatura" degrees (M.A. equivalents).
Our instructors have extensive experience in teaching, and
in guiding American students in study abroad programs. Many have
taught in
U.S. colleges and universities.
"The staff was always ready to answer questions, give advice or help out in any way possible. Everyone was always very helpful and friendly."

ORIENTATION
All academic programs begin with an Orientation Session, which includes the following:
An introduction to IUS and your academic program;
Valuable information about making your stay abroad a successful experience culturally, personally and academically.
Important: We require all students to attend orientation.
CULTURAL EXCURSIONS
Your academic program is supplemented with class trips to sites in and around Seville, designed to reinforce topics covered in class. There will also be day trips and overnight trips to places such as the following:
- Arcos de la Frontera
- Cáceres
- Cádiz
- Córdoba
- Granada
- Jerez de la Frontera
- La Rábida
- Matalascañas
- Merida
- Trujillo
- Gibraltar
Not all these destinations are visited during any one term.
Your tuition includes one day trip and one overnight trip per semester, and one day trip during each intensive session; the destinations vary from term to term.
Optional study trips in and around Seville are organized on Fridays.
Note: You will always be accompanied by IUS staff on these trips, visits and excursions.
“ I love the trip to Portugal. The visits were brief yet explained well, and we had the opportunity to visit a variety of sites in a relatively short time.” Rebecca Gorby • Gettysburg College
